美國總統特朗普下令調派美軍前往委內瑞拉進行潛在的軍事行動，路透社引述消息指美軍指揮部已經調派至少三艘驅逐艦、四千名海軍陸戰隊成員及由偵測飛機及潛艇組成的特派部隊前往委內瑞拉水域部署準備。

白宮發言人表示，因為馬杜羅政府並不是委內瑞拉的合法政權，而且是國際犯罪集團卡德爾（Cartels)的其中一位首腦，更指馬杜羅為目前美國毒品氾濫危機的背後黑手之一。

美國政府早前曾經將原本懸紅馬杜羅的獎金由1500萬美金提升至5000萬美金，打破歷史紀錄，而美國執法部門已經充公馬杜羅超過價值7億美金的犯罪資產，包括兩部私人飛機及九部豪華跑車。

馬杜羅其後在委內瑞拉電視台發表全國講話，表示委內瑞拉軍隊將會保衛我們的海洋天空及領土。
