I am cognizant of the prevalent trend among solicitors to actively market their services for indefinite leave to remain (ILR) applications—a path I have consciously chosen not to pursue. Primarily, my legal practice encompasses a broader spectrum than immigration law: my chief expertise lies in litigation. Furthermore, I eschew aggressive self-promotion; although maintaining professional visibility is undoubtedly essential, I am committed to presenting an authentic image rather than engaging in hyperbolic assertions of my qualifications. In my estimation, such exaggeration is not unlike retouching a photograph—the underlying reality inevitably comes to light.

Financial prosperity, while significant, is for me subordinate to the pursuit of a life endowed with greater meaning. I am adamant that my vocation aligns with my true interests and enduring passion rather than simply serving pecuniary ends.
The advent of 2025 has particular resonance for me, having crystallized my intent to persevere in the legal field. My Buddhist practice, foundational in my life, continually orients me towards existential purpose. Nearly a decade ago, I accepted that attaining genuine happiness represents one of humanity’s most formidable challenges. Having weathered personal betrayals and unwarranted speculation, I now comprehend that happiness is, at its core, a matter of deliberate personal choice.
When questioned regarding any residual animosity towards those who have maligned or misconstrued me, I can assert unequivocally that I harbor none. This absence of resentment is not attributable to an excess of magnanimity but rather to a deliberate cultivation of self-compassion. I recognize that allowing external negativity to impede my well-being serves no constructive function; self-punishment for the misdeeds of others is neither rational nor productive. Indeed, to dwell in envy or anger would merely signify a devaluation of my own self-respect and self-care.

Love, while conceptually nuanced, frequently reveals itself with remarkable simplicity. We possess an inherent capacity both to extend and to receive love, and it constitutes a fundamental motivational force. This simplicity materializes in the realization that, where love is present, happiness naturally ensues. Engagement with those for whom one feels affection or the appreciation of that which one loves engenders joy and augments one’s sense of wellbeing. Love infuses passion into everyday pursuits, enabling individuals to embark upon their respective paths with confidence, irrespective of ultimate outcomes.

Reflecting upon the preceding year, I previously believed that altering my conduct was necessary to garner acceptance. Subsequent to various challenges, I discerned that it was not my pace that needed recalibration but rather my confidence. Through this revelation, I have developed a clearer understanding of my identity and ambitions, appreciating that genuine understanding from others presupposes a robust sense of self-respect.

Following the Mid-Autumn Festival event, I am particularly impelled to express gratitude towards myself for my perseverance amid adversity. I have steadfastly upheld my convictions despite external pressures, and, as a consequence, my group has attained deserved recognition. Remarkably, while the majority of community groups from Hong Kong solicit governmental funding, our organization has distinguished itself in that we have been approached for donations—a testament to our unique standing within the sector.
Ultimately, I am unmotivated by a desire for conformity; my ambitions are anchored in a profound passion for my work. I am resolved to demonstrate that persistent effort, in and of itself, possesses intrinsic worth.
