二零二五年三月十五日，香港人權組織、西藏團體、維吾爾族人士以及當地居民，在倫敦歷史悠久的皇家鑄幣廠舊址 (Royal Mint Court) 舉行大型集會，反對中國在倫敦興建「巨型大使館」計劃，並表達對北京當局利用該建築物騷擾及監控海外異見人士的擔憂。
這是五週內第二次在倫敦塔附近舉行的大規模示威活動。主辦單位估計，約有六千人參與是次集會。
示威者在集會後和平散去，無人被捕。

On March 15, 2025, various human rights organizations in Hong Kong, along with Tibetan groups, Uyghur activists, and local residents, convened a significant rally at the historic former Royal Mint Court in London to express their opposition to China’s proposed “mega-embassy.” The demonstration articulated apprehensions that the Beijing government might utilize the facility to intimidate and surveil dissidents residing overseas.
This marks the second significant demonstration at the location near the Tower of London within a span of five weeks. Organizers have estimated that approximately 6,000 individuals participated in the rally.
The protesters withdrew in a peaceful manner following the conclusion of the event, and no arrests were executed.
The government of China acquired the historic structure in 2018, intending to develop the largest diplomatic facility in Beijing on a global Scale. Information disclosed by an architect involved in the project indicates the inclusion of a tunnel linking two former Royal Mint buildings, subterranean rooms, and provision for accommodations for hundreds of personnel. Detractors express concerns that these features may be utilized for the covert surveillance of expatriate dissenters.
A considerable number of protest signs portrayed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping as the character Winnie-the-Pooh, thereby reflecting the discontent of the protesters regarding the actions taken by both governments in relation to the situation.
The participating organizations comprised various human rights entities from Hong Kong, who express concerns that the proposed “mega-embassy” may serve as an instrument for Beijing to curtail dissent and potentially endanger the safety of Hong Kong residents in the United Kingdom. Additionally, groups representing Tibetan and Uyghur communities participated in the demonstration, advocating against China’s human rights violations. Furthermore, local residents engaged in the rally, voicing their apprehensions regarding the increasing expansion of Chinese influence.
This rally highlights the concerns held by the international community regarding China’s suppression of dissent and its increasing influence on a global scale. The silence of the United Kingdom government on this matter thus far will be subject to careful examination by the international community.
