Chinese Public Claims to Boycott American Goods: No Drinking Coca-Cola, No Shopping at Sam’s, No Doing Business with the U.S.

Amidst the trade conflict between the United States and China, there is a noticeable increase in anti-American sentiment among the general populace in mainland China. Various internet users have committed to boycotting American fast-food establishments and other brands from the United States, including a refusal to consume Coca-Cola. Additionally, some manufacturers have declared their intention not to engage in shipping products to the United States.

In light of the ongoing trade conflict, articulating support for boycotting the United States has emerged as a prevalent discourse on social media platforms in mainland China.

Mainland netizen: “If the U.S. does not lift its tariffs against China, I will retaliate economically by boycotting all American consumption activities, including KFC’s Crazy Thursday.”

Mainland netizen: “I won’t drink Coca-Cola anymore; I’ll stick to Yangmei juice produced here in Cixi.”

Mainland netizen: “I won’t drink Starbucks coffee, won’t buy Nike shoes, and won’t use any products made in the U.S. I firmly support domestic goods.”

Mainland netizen: “I won’t use my Sam’s (a Walmart subsidiary) membership card anymore. I will use my shopping to deliver a heavy blow to American retail giants.”

Not only is there a boycott of American goods, but imagery is also circulating online that depicts merchants displaying notices indicating their intention to impose exorbitant service fees on American customers. Furthermore, certain manufacturers have explicitly expressed their preference to refrain from conducting business with the United States.

Mainland manufacturer: “We Chinese people will not back down. Starting today, for all my mattress export orders, you either increase the price by 200%, and I will ship to you, or stop all orders completely.”

Mainland manufacturer: “I would rather let these goods sit here and decay than sell to them. I see the Americans want to play, and I’m ready to play along to the end.”
